We had a great trip to see the Easter Bunny today. Lindy Jack absolutely loved him! He posed for the pictures with no problems and then when I picked him up to say goodbye to the Bunny, he turned towards Mr. Bunny and reached back for him. I asked the Easter Bunny if I could put him back in his lap and when I did so Lindy Jack turned to him and gave him a huge hug around the neck. It was sooooo sweet!!

We will be having a GIRL!!! She is Due August 17th. Her name is Lila Hazel Smith, named after my grandmothers Lila Elizabeth Loggins and Hazel Montgomery Wells.

House Update

We are making progress.. slowly but surely. The heating, air and plumbing are being done now. After that we can really start getting the inside together.

Let me say that again! I can't believe he almost a YEAR OLD! Let me update you on what Lindy Jack is doing these days:

crawling (well not the traditional crawl.. we call it an army crawl.. or belly crawl)
cutting teeth.. we have two bottom teeth and I think we may be cutting top teeth now
clapping
when we say "Praise Jesus" Lindy Jack raises his hand to the sky
playing his toy drum
saying da da, kai(our great dane), ig ack (Big Jack), ook (book), and he says something when the cats pass by but can't really figure out how to write it here.
usually wakes up once a night to be rocked
will only cuddle with us when it is bed time
is eating 2nd foods and trying 3rds but can't stand any food chunks
is learning how to use a sippy cup

The house is coming along. It looks like maybe we will be in by early spring. There are still a lot of decisions to be made before then. The back of the house. These are the windows to one of the upstairs bedrooms.

Lindy Jack's First Trip to South Carolina

Lindy Jack and I took a little adventure to South Carolina last weekend. We had sooooo much fun. He was the best baby ever! He was only fussy once the entire trip and we were there for 5 days. I was so thankful. This was our first trip alone so I was a little unsure of how things would go. He did great on the drive up and back. He slept most of the way. We saw lots of friends and had loads of fun. Check out our pictures! Lindy Jack became an official Clemson Tiger!

This Week

We are finally getting some cooler weather, well upper 70s which is much better than upper 90s. I got to pull out some of Lindy Jack's fall clothes. I just got this hat for him it looks so cute, but he is so funny with it. He likes to take it off and chew on it. Pretty much everything goes straight to his mouth right now.

We tried on some hats that I made for LJ. I can't wait for it to be cool enough for him to actually wear them. He loves playing with his dad's beard.

Lindy Jack sleeps on his side in his bed and I guess has decided that it also comfortable to sleep on his side in his swing. :)

We went to the Whistle Stop Festival with Big Jack and Nan. We didn't stay lond because this was before the weather started to cool down and it was soooo hot.

Wednesday night we had the privleged of dedicating Lindy Jack to the Lord at Church of the Highlands. He usually stays in the nursery when we go to into church so he was in for a big surprise when the music started. It was so loud that he jumped and he was so alert and kept looking back and forth at all the people. He looked so cute in his white dedication outfit given to us as a shower gift. This was our first attempt at rice cereal. It was difficult to get a clear picture because Lindy Jack kept moving around kicking his legs and trying to grab the spoon. We started this on Sunday and today was the first day he ate the entire bowl. As you can see from the pictures this was very eventful for the entire family including our four-legged brother and sister. Ficher and Sunday were so interested I kept having to shoo them away so they would start licking the milk/cereal off of LJ's hands.

We had a big day for the 4th. First we went to church, then Uncle Mike's house, then home for a nap, then finished it off with a shrimp boil and "thunder on the mountain" fireworks from Jamie and Kip's rooftop. Lindy Jack was a trooper. He was great all day and then completed the day with a full 7 hours of sleep last night. Boy was I happy, cause I needed the rest. Lindy Jack Goes To The Beach

We took our first beach trip with Lindy Jack. Although he did not get to feel the sand in his toes, he did however enjoy being around family and being in a new place. It was in the upper 90s the entire time we were there, so LJ spent most of his time indoors. We did however get out some days to do some shopping at Rosemary beach and Seaside. I don't think he minded staying indoors as you see from the look on his face below he had a good time on his first beach trip.

Lindy Jack Speaks: Mom's best friend Ovis came to visit me this week. She lives in South Carolina, hopefully I will get to go visit her there one day. We had lots of fun shopping and hanging out.

Mom joined a group called Magic City Slingers. It is a baby wearers group. This picture below is us trying a sling she checked out from their library. I didn't like it at first but after just a few minutes I was so comfortable that I fell asleep.

I got my first bath in my big boy tub. I'm not sure what I think about it yet. Yeah I was a little fussy but surely I will get used to it.

My big event for the week was going to the doctor. I am now 9lbs and 22 in a half inches. I sure am growing. I got two shots and and oral vacine. I barely cried, Lindy Jack=tough.

We decided to go to church for the first time since LJ was born. He wore his tie onesie and looked adorable. He only woke up once during the service he looked around a bit and then fell back asleep. It was nice getting to go to church I had been missing it. Watching it online is just not the same.

We decided to take Lindy Jack and Kai for a hike at Ruffner Mountain today. It was beautiful out. We definately got a work out on the trails, especially pushing the stroller. Kai had a blast but now she is worn out.

The house is coming right along. Jeff says it should be completed in the next 6 months. Yay! This is the master bath, I think. Now that I look at the pictures it is kinda hard to tell because everything kinda looks the same. This is the bonus room/play room. The upstairs is being built in what used to the attic so the ceilings are angled in some of the rooms.

The kitchen and dining room will have vaulted ceilings. My favorite part of the house so far.

Finally in something other than Pajamas! Lindy Jack got to wear some real clothes this week and I think he looks just adorable in this outfit. Here he is with daddy after a bath. He was warming up and drying off in his robe.

My first Mother's Day! We made a trip around Birmingham visiting family. Lindy Jack got to meet some more of his relatives.

Lindy Jack speaks: My dad gave me a nickname while I was in the NICU. It is bundle because the nurses kept me all bundled up to help me with my temperature. The doctor called me a little burrito. This is mom and me in the hospital.

My first car seat ride. I'm all snug. I cried when they put me in it, but as soon as dad picked it up and started walking I stopped.

I'm so excited to announce that I was chosen to be in a craft book and it is coming out in print in May!!!! It is a book all about birds. There are 26 one of a kind craft projects everything from budgies to owls to peacocks and I'm proud to say that one of the projects is mine. Below is a picture of the cover.. The Gutting Has Begun

There is some progress! Jeff, mama, daddy and I went roaming around to see results of the gutting. Everything is a mess and ready to be rebuilt into a beauty. They made me wear a mask to keep me and Lindy Jack safe from any crazy things that might be roaming around in the air there. I can't wait to see what everything will look like especially that old garage in the last picture.

Our New House

This will be our home! It is located in a historic neighborhood in Birmingham (Homewood). We are so excited about it. I will say at this point it is a total dump. There is a lot to be done. You can follow the progress here on my blog. I am gonna do my best to update the progress. The first thing that had to be done was cut down some trees. I know this was very hard to see happen, but a lot of them were dead and it really improved the appearance of the yard.

This is the living room. It is huge which will be a big change from the tiny living room space we have now. I really love the high ceilings.

This is a breakfast nook area. It is an octagon shaped room off of the kitchen. It is gonna be so cute when all done.

This is Daddy standing in the attic which will become two bedrooms with a Jack and Jill bath and maybe eventually a play room.

I figured I would update my blog since it has been awhile. I am 29 weeks pregnant and expecting a boy! His name will be Lyndel Jackson Smith. We are so excited. We finally started working on the nursery. I wasn't sure about the color at first, but I really like it now. As you can see from the picture below, Sunday thinks that chest was put there for her to have daily access to the window. We are still waiting on the crib and the changer, but hopefully it is coming in next week. Jeff and I put the bassinet together today.. it was fairly easy and I think it is just so sweet.

Happy Halloween everyone! We enjoyed the festivities a day early at a fundraiser for the leukemia/lymphoma society. Yes that is me below as Pippi Longstocking. I think I made a pretty cute Pippi. I can't believe I had never thought about being her before. It was a suggestion from my sister-in-law. Friends Michelle and Kali as a sexy witch and a go-go dancer.

My fabulous brother and sister in laws. Jay was Patrick Bateman from American Psycho and Heidi as She-Ra Princess of Power. She had a great costume and handmade the entire thing.

Then there is Jeffrey. He was dressed at Jim Jones the cult leader during the 70s. His sister picked out his costume and it was so funny because nobody knew who he was. One person thought he was Harry Potter and another thought he was the Kool-Aide Graduation guy. He was like "thanks Heidi you dressed me up as Harry Potter!"

Ovis got married this weekend in Gatlinburg, TN. She got married in a quaint little chapel in the mountains. It was a beautiful wedding. The chapel did not allow photography on it's grounds but I did get some pictures in the dressing room and at the restaurant afterwards.

The Dream Center

This weekend our church launched it's DREAM CENTER. It was such an exciting day. Our church purchased two buildings in one of the lower socio-economic parts of town. One is for a health clinic called Christ Health Center and the other for an Outreach Center. The health clinic will have doctor care, nursing care, dentistry and counseling. Everyone may use the health clinic even those without insurance. The outreach center will be a hub for church members to come to be tutors, mentors and community volunteers.

For the launch we had a huge yard sale, all kinds of activities for the kids, a health fair, free shoes, and lots of great food. Our pastor is from Louisiana and loves to make jambalaya for the church. Let's just say there was a lot of jambalaya. Ew Wee!!! It was delicious!

Jeff, Bill, Jason and Eiken. Not only was the dream center day a day for celebration but also a day of service. These guys spent their morning painting the high school in the neighborhood.

We had roughly 1500 people come out for the event.

An organization called Soles for Souls came out and gave away free shoes. These shoes were all brand new and not on the cheap side either. Most of the boxes I saw walk by were Columbias and Timberlands. It was reported that 2000 pairs of shoes were given out!!!!!!

We had a great day serving. Pray that the Dream Center will be a place where dreams will come true!

Introducing Kai Barrymore Smith

We broke down and got a puppy, but not just any puppy she is absolutely amazing. Her name is Kai pronounced Kye and her middle name is Barrymore after Drew Barrymore.

She is a GREAT DANE. Currently weighing 20 pounds at 11 weeks. She is blue and her coat is beautiful and so soft. The cats are adjusting pretty good. They weren't sure at first but I think in no time they will be the best of buds. She will be travelling this weekend to meet her older brother Noam at my parent's house.

Here are a few snapshots of our vacation to California. We had a great time. This was my first trip to Cali. Jeff was born there and most of his extended family is there. I have a lot of pictures of Jeff in the water. I swear he was like a little boy, he would stay in the ocean all day.

This photo cracks me up. He pursed his lips out! ha! Ok so I will never be able to go back to California without renting a convertible. Yes, that was our ride for the week. I am so in love with that car.

The trip was very relaxing. We got to spend lots of time with Jeff's family. We also went down to San Diego for a night to see my friend Jeanne, who is an amazing glass artist and extraordinary Christian. Check out her stuff. www.trinitytreasures.org

Surprise 30th Birthday Party

We had a great party! Jeff's Birthday was a Cuban themed party. Ok so I will set the scene for you. Music by Perez Prado "King of the Mambo." After the surprise I had Jeff quickly change into a fedora hat and guayabera shirt. There was lots of great food, dancing with maracas, cigars, dominoes and bright decor. The women dressed in bright colors with flowers in their hair. The men in linen or Hawaiian shirts and hats. Oh I can't forget the mustaches! Here are a few snapshots from the evening.

I was asked to donate an art item for a child's room for the Birmingham Children's Theatre annual fundraiser. I think that was a run on sentence! Oh well! This is what I came up with. Tell me what ya think!

They Finally Got Their Blankets

mama and i have been working on these for Jeff and Daddy for a while and what do you know but we both finished them this week. i was very pleased at how Jeff's turned out. anytime he saw me working on another project besides his blanket it would get so offended. it was rather funny!introducing my daddy this is his first appearance on my blog....

daddy's blanket turned out beautifully. mama used up a lot of her scrap yarn and it made such a wonderful afghan.

Don't Judge A Book By It's Cover

is what I learned at the cat show this weekend....In the picture below is a Sphynx(cat). Most would consider this an ugly cat, however I have to say that I fell in love! He was so sweet and his owner talked about how very lovely he is and I would have to agree! I did some research on these cats and found out they originated in Canada. Sphynxes are know for their personality.. they are extroverts, intelligent, curious and affectionate. I pet him and he felt like soft leather, quite nice actually. I really want one... I'm not sure I can talk Jeff into it though. Three pretty persians. The one in the middle one first place in one of the persian categories.

This guy was a hoot. He of course was one of the judges and he was very funny.

1st Christmas as a married couple. We had a fabulous one!

1st Sewing Machine. No not the first sewing machine I have ever used but all the others were hand- me- downs. This is the 1st one bought for me. Thanks mom and dad. I love it! Did you notice it is the project runway limited edition!

1st ET shirt I've ever purchased. Our neice, Liv, loves ET. This was one of her Christmas presents and she looks adorable in it.

I wanted to tell you about a very special project that my mom, some friends/coworkers and I did. I saw an article in crochet today for scarves for The 2009 Special Olympics. At work we have a knitting/crocheting group for some of the teenagers we work with and we are always looking for charity projects the girls can do with the skills they have learned. We did this project with them. I cannot show any photos of the girls because of confidentiality, but here are some of the adults and our beautiful scarves. I am glad that we were able to give the athletes a cherished memento. We will be mailing our scarves out in a couple of weeks.

I got to experience the famous Rockettes this weekend! It was an amazing show. My great aunt who went with us saw the Rockettes in 1951 and was so excited to get another opportunity to see the fabulous production again. The reindeer costumes were my favorite ...the antlers had lights on them.

The wooden soldiers were so cool. The parade of the wooden soldiers is one of the show's original acts from 1933. The ladies showed amazing skill and timing pulling off this number.

Ok so who can't get enough of Santa. I love him and we got bunches of him here.

I'm so proud of myself for getting this perfect kicking picture.

Such a great ending to the show. The live nativity scene was breathtaking. It is nice to see that the rockettes still remember what Christmas is all about.

Tis The Season

This is our beautiful Christmas Tree that has taken quite a beating this year! This is our Kittens, Ficher and Sunday's, first Christmas. Having said that they think that we put this tree up especially for them. I can't tell you how many times Sunday has been up in the tree but I can tell you that I have personally caught her at the VERY TOP three times. I'm surprised it is still standing!

Check out my beautiful manger scene! My friend Allison made this for me a very long time ago and yes Allison I use it every Christmas. This is among my most treasured Christmas Decorations.

Art in Avondale Park

On Saturday mama and I did an art show in Avondale Park. We had a great day and sold lots of stuff! Here are a few pictures from the day.

The day was filled with fun stuff for the kids mostly arts and crafts. Above is our niece Liv. She made her head band in the kids craft area. The main attraction for Liv however was the pond behind our booth that was full of ducks.

There was a children's parade that was super cute. It was a parade of children wearing costumes and playing violins.

Sips and Strokes

Another night at sips and strokes. We had two newbies this time mom and my friend Erica. Lots of fun to be had at sips and strokes. There were about 70 ladies stuffed into a room to paint a martini picture. Lets just says lots of talking and lots of laughing. I didn't do so well with my painting this time, but I'm sure I will find somewhere to put it.

Last night I got invited by my friend Kali (above) to the Counting Crows and Maroon 5 concert. It is finally starting to cool off in Birmingham and the concert was outside. Live music, a cool breeze and good company made for a wonderful evening!

My crafting juices have been flowing this weekend! My mom showed me this article out of her Woman's Day magazine and I had to make this beautiful bouquet. It is made from onesies, hats, socks and washcloths. I am so excited to present mine to a beautiful mom-to-be tomorrow at a baby shower. This was so much fun to make. Check mine out below. I used yellows and greens because the parents are not finding out the sex of their baby.

Weekend in Review

My friend Kassie invited me to go to the artwalk downtown this weekend. This is her, however this is not a picture from the weekend. I just wanted you to know who I was talking about. There were lots of talents artists and there are so many creative people in Birmingham.

Most of you know I have a really hard time going to an art show/festival without buying something. This time was no different. I usually get jewelry, but I have seen these recycling paintings at several art shows and have been wanting one. So yeah you guessed it, this is now mine! I put it right on the mantel so it can stare at us. I don't think Jeff thinks that is the best spot for it, but it is staying there for now.
So today I walked into the bathroom to get ready to go to the gym and this is what I found. Yep little Sunday squeezed herself right into the sink and I'll have to be honest she looked so cute and comfy that I just left her there. Crazy kitty!

We were able to get in a little vacation despite the threat of a hurricane. The waters were rough. I have never seen waves so big and the red flag was out to remind us we were not to get in the water. That did not stop some people though and Jeff and Jay got in up to their knees.

We put all the chairs in the pool so they would not blow away or into the windows overnight.
We enjoyed the pool when the weather was calm.

and no bad weather can stop the enjoyment of ICE CREAM!

This weekend I went to the book sale at our local library. I haven't been to one of these here in Birmingham since I moved back. I used to take my group home in South Carolina to the book sale at the library there. You can't beat a library book sale, such great deals and variety. I definately did some damage at ours this weekend. I got some great craft books, vintage children's books, brand new williams sonoma cookbooks and much much more.

penne with shrimp, feta and spring vegetables

great easy meal from everyday food by martha stewart april 2008 edition

what you need: salt and ground pepper, 12 ounces of penne rigate (we used whole wheat), 1 pound asparagus (trimmed and cut into 1 inch pieces), 1 pound peeled and deveined frozen shrimp thawed, 8 ounces snow peas cut in half, 3 tablespoons olive oil, 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice, 2 garlic cloves (minced), 1 package of feta and a fourth of cup of mint leaves

directions: 1. in a large pot of boiling salted water, cook peene 5 mins less than package says, add asparagus and cook 3 mins, add shrimp and snow peas and cook 2 mins. reserve a half cup of pasta water: drain pasta mixture and return to pot.

2.to pasta mixture, add oil, lemon juice, garlic, and a fourth cup reserved pasta water. season with salt and pepper, and toss to combine. gently mix in feta and mint; adjust to desired consistency with some pasta water as needed. serve immediately.

last night jeff and i went to a CD release party for wild sweet orange. if you don't know who they are you should look them up. they have been around for a while and are finally getting some exposure. they were on David Letterman recently and had a song feautred on grey's anatomy. i really enjoy them and especially loved the accordian!

ok so my favorite jewelry is the topic today. most of you know i love jewelry, however fused glass has got to be at the top of my list. not just any fused glass ,mind you, but fused glass pendants made by my friend jeanne lee. i met jeanne when i was living in charleston. i would see her all over town and it was obvious that we enjoyed the same activities. i saw her at the farmer's market first and bought one of her pendants, then i saw her at the gym, then i saw her at my church and we finally talked and became friends. so the story goes. over serveral years i have purchased many of her pendants, some may say too many. below is my collection of which i love and wear often. please check out her website www.trinitytreasures.org .jeanne is very talented and has been blessed by always putting God first. she is a true inspiration and beautiful inside and out.

I've decided to do a series of posts called handmade and in our home. I want to do this to show you my love for handmade goods and the many talented artists that make them. This first post is very special to me because my nanny made these beautiful quilts. My father says he can remember her having friends over and working on these quilts for hours.

This one stays on my guest bed. I feel honored to have it in my home.
This is a picture of the lady whose hands made the quilts and the man who loved her. My grandparents Nanny and Paw Paw.

They do not make them any more,

Upon quaint old walnut bed,
A crazy quilt of those days

Some woman sewed these points and squares

Old patches of such things as these,
Old garments and old memories.

For some old happiness we knew;

This week I went to sips n strokes with a few of my friends. We had a blast! So basically you have a canvas, a teacher and whatever drinks you want to bring. Everyone is working on the same picture, however you can change colors/techniques and get your creative juices flowing. Google sips n strokes to see if there is one in your area. It is definately a fun girls night out.

She purchased all of these from a local farmers market, except the peppers daddy grew those. I think it is great that she supports local farming. My fair trade mama. Aren't they beautiful?
